The Gig Economy

Until I heard the NPR broadcast https://www.npr.org/2019/03/11/702129540/why-many-americans-are-drawn-to-the-gig-economy  yesterday, I have not heard of this term. But once acquainted with the term, I realized that this is nothing new even though the term is. Do you want to be your own boss, set your own work schedule, and determine your own pay by how hard you work? That is known as “an independent contractor/consultant” – which I have done all my life part time. Nowadays with the advent of smart phone, UBER/LIFT drivers becomes numerous. People work and earn money on per task (gig) basis in all kinds of environment and conditions. There are “pros and cons” of this new social condition. Sociologist are just beginning to take notice and investigate it.
