No one dispute the fact that technological advances are accelerating and growing by leaps and bounds. Everyday tools we use without thinking are unheard of one generation ago. However, the effect of technological advances are often impossible to foresee or anticipate with both good and bad results. Take the example of smartphone. Who could have imagined that a convenience tool has totally changed the way we live and function. Smartphone enabled Uber and Lift which almost completely destroyed the taxi business. What used to be million dollar worth taxi licenses in NYC now only worth a fraction of its former value. AirBnB caused a large demand of apartments as an investment vehicle which pushed up real estate price. This is predictable. But few saw as a result the booming room cleaning service since all rooms must be cleaned each time a tourist leaves. What use to be one person or two person house cleaning business now have to hire extra workers to keep up with demand. Such are the unintended and unforeseen consequences of technological advances that create/destroy businesses. You prosper/perish by things over which you have no control and happen without warning. Education and alertness are the only tools to help you survive in this tough world. It is indeed the world of “Future Shock”.
