第11章 Philologers…(语言学家)

11.1 旧理论和新理论

歌德说过,“不懂其他语言的人，也不真懂本民族的语言”。他的意思是，要真正理解一种语言，就得有比较的材料。

梵文的发现在语言史上的意义，堪比美洲的发现在大陆史上的意义。

语言史属于这样一个领域，人们不太可能到这里来寻求刺激，寻找英雄。但是，对于那些对价值特别敏感的人来说，这里既有刺激，也有英雄，而且是大大地有。当然，在这里勤恳努力的英雄是有耐性的，是不爱抛头露面的，是几乎无人知晓的；但他们的献身精神堪比科学英雄，二者非常相像。
