A complete set of equipment,成套设备

A bedroom set, 一套卧室家具

A literature set, 一批文学爱好者

He is not of our set. 他不是我们这一伙的。

The fast set, 不务正业之流

There was a stubborn setto his jaw. 他紧绷着下巴。

The set of the tide, 潮向

A set of a willow, 供栽插的柳枝

An onion set, 洋葱的球茎

Ten out of the set oftwelve were hatched. 一窝12个孵出来10个。

Make set at somebody,  猛烈攻击某人

下面仍是动词含义。

Be dead set on having one’sown way, 一意孤行

Set gains against losses, 用盈余抵亏损

Public opinion is settingagainst this practice. 舆论是反对这种做法的。

Set aside all objections, 不顾一切反对

Set back the clock, 字面意思是拨回时钟，比喻倒行逆施。

The house is well set backfrom the street. 这所房子离街面有一定的距离。

Set friendship beforecompetition, 友谊第一比赛第二

The proposal was set byfor further consideration. 这项提议留待以后讨论。

Set down a load, 放下担子

This bus will set you downat your destination. 这路公交能把你送到目的地。

Set somebody down as anave, 把某人看成恶棍
