笹井芳树今天被证实自杀身亡,真是很可惜的。应该说,他是细胞研究领域的国际重量级人物。笹井芳树一共发表100多篇学术论文,被引用12000次以上,其H因子为42以上。其中被引用超过300次以上的论文有12篇,100次以上有33篇。

笹井出生于兵库县,1986年自京都大学医学系毕业,1998年36岁的他成为了京都大学再生医科学研究所教授。笹井是获得2012年诺贝尔奖的英国科学家约翰·格登博士的再传弟子。他从胚胎干细胞(ES细胞)制作出的立体的大脑及眼部组织引起了巨大反响。2013年度笹井被选为使用ES细胞、诱导多能干细胞(iPS细胞)治疗眼部疾病的国家级项目负责人,积极推动了研究成果的医疗应用。
