An NSF supported one-year postdoctoral fellowship is available starting August 2011. The research project involves a study of interdisciplinary collaboration at two Nanoscale Science and Engineering Centers at the University of California, Santa Barbara and Arizona State University. Both centers conduct research on societal dimensions of nanoscale science and engineering. The project involves using social science qualitative research methods to study collaborative activity, particularly focusing on social science and natural science/engineering collaboration and social science and public collaboration as it is developed in public engagement activity. The postdoctoral fellowship provides an excellent opportunity to initiate, or further develop, a research agenda on interdisciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in anthropology, sociology, STS, or other relevant discipline and experience using social science qualitative research methodology. Prior research experience on interdisciplinarity is preferable, but not necessary. The fellow will be under the supervision of Stephen Zehr at the University of Southern Indiana and must be personally flexible to spend several months at each research site. The position includes salary and travel and equipment support. To apply, submit a curriculum vitae and letter of interest that outlines social science research background and skills by 15 April to Stephen Zehr; Department of Sociology, Anthropology & Criminal Justice Studies; University of Southern Indiana; Evansville, IN 47712. Applications and requests for further information may be sent electronically to szehr@usi.edu. The University of Southern Indiana is an equal opportunity, affirmative action educator and employer.
