A Cocktail Beverage For Female Contraception

Our idea
To develop a new method for female contraception. Dr. Chun-Song Hu of Nanchang University will develop a cocktail beverage consisting of three mixed ingredients (alcohol, β-carotene and coffee) with different percentage and test its contraceptive effects under optimal percentage by animal experiments. Then, to observe whether this ABC beverage will help female contraception with better effects and less side effects.

Section I. Our idea

1        Specific Idea:
To develop a new method for female contraception. We will develop a cocktail beverage consisting of three mixed ingredients (alcohol, β-carotene and coffee) with different percentage and test its contraceptive effects under optimal percentage by animal experiments. Then, to observe whether this ABC beverage will help female contraception with better effects and less side effects.
2        Creativity and Significance:
This new method for female contraception is an unconventional or creative approach, because: 1) It is a cocktail beverage consisting of three mixed ingredients (alcohol, β-carotene and coffee) from red wine or beer, carrot juice and coffee with different percentage; 2) This ABC beverage will help female contraception under optimal percentage with better effects and less side effects; 3) It’s a simple, safe, reliable and noninvasive method; 4) It’s easy and convenient to accept and popularize; 5) As a new method for female contraception we developed, it will improve people’s sexual life quality with more sexual desire, climax and contentment; 6) This ABC beverage will also benefit women’s cardiovascular health and keep cancers away. Therefore, as an effective contraceptive methods, it is not just for female contraception, but also for cardiovascular healthcare, anti-aging and the prevention of cancers.
3 Its Scientific Basis:
At present, there are several kinds of methods reported in the available scientific literatures for female contraception, such as oral contraceptive pill(OCP), condom, intrauterine device (IUD), contraceptive ring, fallopian tube ligation and contraceptive DNA vaccines, etc. Each has its advantages and disadvantages including inhibition of vitamins absorption and carcinogenesis. Actually, there are some foods which may help anti-fertility, such as alcohol beverage, carrot juice and coffee, etc. However, the effect of their mixture which we named ABC beverage from red wine or beer, carrot juice and coffee with different percentage is unknown. We think this cocktail beverage under optimal percentage may help female contraception with better effects and less side effects based the role of each of ingredients. But the percentage of each in this ABC beverage is unknown and needs to determine by animal experiments.

In this project, we will develop a new, simple and effective method for female contraception by designed a cocktail beverage, also called ABC beverage, which derives from ordinary

foods alcohol beverage, carrot juice and coffee. We think it’s a simple, safe, reliable and noninvasive method, easy and convenient to accept and popularize. We expect and believe this project will get to success based on the previous basis and this creative idea. We also believe it will help more women enhance the satisfactory of their happy sexual life.

Section II. Test our idea

1. Research Plan  Background: There are several kinds of methods reported for female contraception and each has its advantages and disadvantages. Aims: In this project, we will develop a new method for female contraception. Methods: 1. To prepare alcohol, β-carotene and coffee from red wine or beer, carrot juice and coffee, respectively; 2. To mix three ingredients A(alcohol), B(β-carotene) and C(coffee) in water with different percentage and get a cocktail beverage which we named as ABC beverage; 3. Animal experiments: adult female rats totally 120, divided at random into eight groups: group A(alcohol), group B(β-carotene), group C(coffee), group (A1B1C1) , group (A2B2C2), group (A3B3C3), group (A4B4C4) and control group, n=15, respectively. There are different percentages of A(alcohol) 1%, 6%, 12%, 20%, B(β-carotene) 29%, 14%, 8%, 20% and C(coffee) 70%, 80%, 80%, 60% in group (A1B1C1), group (A2B2C2), group (A3B3C3), group (A4B4C4), respectively. Adult female rats were treated daily with the same doses of different beverages and foods, i.e., 100 ml beverage/day for 30 days. Distilled normal salt water was administered to the control group animals. 4. To evaluate sexual behavior and assay level of female hormone, biochemical analysis including blood and urine routine, blood lipid and sugar, liver and kidney functions of all rats at the end of the experiment, and the weight and histology of the reproductive organs and heart after the rats killed. 5. All data were recorded and analyzed.
2.  The Budget  To finish this project need the budget about USD$ 100,000 a year. All items and its reason as follows: 1). Salaries: principal investigators, scientific staffs, technical staffs, administrative staffs and others; 2). Graduate students; 3). Animals;  4). Equipments; 5). Biochemical and histological analysis 6). Literatures check and copies; 7). Paper charges, 8). Conferences and travels, etc; 9). Research reviewer.
3.      Data  Interpretation of results:  1) To analyze and review all data of animal
experiments in this project, we will find that: sexual behaviors are active, but the weight and histology of the reproductive organs (diameter and morphology) were not affected in all the treatment groups. 2) The reduction in pregnancy was ? %, ? %, ? %, ? %, ? %, ? %, and ? %, respectively, in the treatment groups. 3) The female hormone level changed or no significantly changed. 4) Biochemical analysis showed no clinical signs of side effects on general metabolism detected throughout the treatment, and after withdrawal, body weight gain was similar in all groups together with no alterations in the weight of vital organs', hematological and serological parameters. 5) This cocktail beverage we developed, which consisting of three mixed ingredients (alcohol, β-carotene and coffee) with optimal percentage, will help female contraception with better effects and less side effects. Conclusions:  As a novel female contraceptive method, ABC beverage is worthy of popularizing due to its simple, safe, reliable and noninvasive as well as easy or convenient to accept for family planning in future practice.
4.  Next Step  Our future plan is: 1). To conduct clinical observation of this cocktail beverage (ABC) for contraceptive effect among young women and men; 2). To product it and entry to markets to service more populations after our successful clinical practice.
