检索基本科学指标（Essential Science Indicators，简称ESI）得知1998年1月1日至2008年12月31日进入ESI的SCI、SSCI收录的农业科学领域期刊有153种，11年农业科学领域论文总被引次数、论文数排名均为美国第一位，论文数42,750篇、总被引361,674次、篇均被引8.46次（第16位）；中国农业科学论文的总被引次数24,082次排名在第14位、论文数5,992篇排名在第12位、篇均被引次数4.02未进前20名（第61位），中国台湾地区论文的总被引次数13,671次排名在第25位、论文数2,086篇排名在第25位、篇均被引次数6.55未进前20名（第25位）。其中中国作者（至少有一位中国作者，不包括中国台湾地区）有43篇农业科学领域高被引论文进入ESI。

这43篇农业科学领域高被引论文，引用最多的论文为非第一作者单位和美国合作的国际合作论文（被引302次），第2、6、8、11、13、14、16、17、19篇高被引论文均为非第一作者单位和比利时、日本、丹麦、美国、加拿大、意大利合作的论文。

这43篇农业科学领域高被引论文通讯作者为中国学者总被引次数超过30次的有9篇论文，其中被引用最多的为浙江农业大学在《食品化学》上发表的论文（被引130次）。

需要说明的是某个国家论文数和引文数统计的根据是在发表的论文中出现的研究机构，如果一篇论文中署有至少一个国家的地址那么此论文就归属于该国家；论文中列出的所有国家都要考虑在内，而不只是考虑列在首位的国家；如果一个国家在该篇论文中出现多次，则按一次计算，所有在论文中出现的国家的引文数就是指该论文的引文数。

下面为检索1998-2009年Web of Science分析得到至少有一位中国作者（不包括台湾）的农业科学领域中通讯作者为中国作者总被引次数超过30次的9篇论文，这9篇论文分别刊登在5种期刊上：JOURNAL OF AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD CHEMISTRY《农业化学与食品化学杂志》3篇、FOOD CHEMISTRY《食品化学》3篇、JOURNAL OF NUTRITION《营养学杂志》1篇、JOURNAL OF THE SCIENCE OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE《食品科学与农业杂志》 1篇，TRENDS IN FOOD SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY《食品科学与技术趋势》1篇。第6、9篇为综述论文。

9篇农业科学领域高被引论文通讯作者单位为香港中文大学4篇、浙江大学（其中第一篇为浙江农业大学）、香港理工大学各2篇、香港大学1篇。
