Effects of seed extracts from Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim on antifeeding and growth and development of Pieris rapae L
 
 
AbstractTrichosanthes (Trchosanthes kiriowiiMaxim) is belong to Cucurbitaceae Trichosanthes Linn. .It is a medicinal plant, commonly known as wild hyacinth. The quality of the grass is perennial vines, distributed in East Asia and northern Australia, China, mainly distributed in Anhui, Shandong, Henan and other places. Trichosanthes’ seeds of Trichosanthes are called Smakegourd Seed , which has high medicinal values and is rich in lipids and protein. The medical value of Trichosanthes kirilowii Maximseed has already had comprehensive development and application. However, it is still a vacancy that the study of Trichosanthes kirilowii Maximseed on biotic pesticide material. biotic pesticide is easy to be decompounded after use and low residual solvent,so it doesn’t affect the ecosystem balance and bring any pollution into environment. In this paper,it studied the effect of both water extraction and ethanol extraction on the growth of Pieris rapae.The results not only provide the theoretic basis to further exploitate Trichosanthes kirilowii Maximseed, but also provide new material for biotic pesticide from plant.In this study, the hungered Pieris rapae was fed with the fresh cabbage(Φ=1.5 cm) leaves which were treated by the extraction of seeds using the dispensing and dipping cultivation 48 hours in room temperature. According to the weight of Pieris rapae and the resting leaf acreage, we can calculate antifeeding rate of Pieris rapae and restrain rate. Thereby, we can measure the effect of extractions from Trichosanthes kirilowii Maximseed by the ways of water extraction and ethanol extraction on the growth and development and antifeeding effect of Pieris rapae.The results showed that the antifeeding effect of ethanol extraction to Pieris rapae is stronger than water extraction,at the different mass concentration, the anti-feeding rate after cultivation 48 hours from 18.05% to 78.99%,and at the same condition the anti-feeding rate of water extraction from 11.68% to 52.54%. And the restrain effect of growth and development of water extraction is significant..At the mass concentration of 1000 g/L,the restrain percentage is 91.8% after cultivation 24 hours and reach to 102.1% 48 hours later.This show thatthe effect of two extracts of Trichosanthes kirilowii Maximseed to Pieris rapaes’antifeedant activity and growth and development restrain is significant.The data is  increasing according to the increase of quality density. So the  Trichosanthes kirilowii Maximseed extract had certain insecticidal activity and it could be exploited and utilized as biotic pesticide.
