Description:

The ‘standard’ two-equation turbulence models, used widely in industry, cannot be directly used in depth-averaged modeling. Till now, the vast majority of quasi 3D numerical tools in the world just can provide a unique depth-averaged 2-equation k-ε model for modeling relatively simple side-charge problem on single-level grid only. Due to the absence of one ‘universal’ model in the turbulence modeling theory, this book, however, introduces other two depth-averaged 2-equation turbulencemodels k-w and k-ω, built by the author; describes the development of a CFD software (Q3drm1.0), and provides 8 examples of steady andunsteady flows and transports, caused by side-discharge, point-source discharge and area-source discharge, respectively, for the Yellow River, Mississippi River, Yangtze River, AmazonRiver and so on. The software can well simulate and analyze flows and transport behaviors by using 3 depth-averaged 2-equation models. This book should be especially useful to the researches and professionals in water science and engineering, environment and IT fields.

About the Software Author:

Liren Yu, Doctor, is a technology entrepreneur, the first author or the only author of more than 100 research papers, teaching material in university, monograph and research reports, written in English, Portuguese and Chinese, respectively, also is the owner of four computer program copyrights registered at home and abroad, and still is the developer of five unregistered software in engineering. Over the years, Dr. Yu engaged in engineering planning and construction, teaching and research in university, overseas cooperative research as well as academic visits and researches. He takes charge of six and participates in two research projects, supported by Australia, Brazilian and Chinese Research Councils; and obtains six honors and awards at home and abroad. At present, he serves as the CEO of Environmental Software & Digital Visualization Inc. (ESDV) .

Till to now, Dr. Yu have established four depth-averaged two-equation closure turbulence new models, and carried out engineering application researches for these new models in his academic career. He is good at researching and developing large general-purpose CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) program package and corresponding software products, including two- and three-dimensional developments for visualizing input and output data.Since 1987, there have nine times that Dr. Yu used self-developed programs and software to calculate and analyze the flow and pollution transport phenomena in engineering; and had seven times to transfer the technology achievements to the domestic and foreign colleagues at universities and institutes of survey, design and research (See Table 1).

For the current situation that the existing multi-line source Gauss dispersion models in the world are only applicable to the so-called ‘micro-scale region’ and people really lack the tool of describing the pollutant concentration fields in whole city, caused by traffic exhaust gas emissions, Dr. Yu have developed the core technology of the city-scale simulation platform software of motor vehicle exhaust gas emissions (SPS-YC: Simulation Platform Software for Your City), and can provide the service to customize SPS-YC for the city specified by customer. Also in view of the fact that the world’s existing quasi 3D modeling software only can provide a single depth-averaged two-equation turbulence model (k-epsilon model), but there is no an ‘universal’ turbulence closure model in turbulence modeling theory, Dr. Yu then have developed an ‘advanced CFD software for refindly modeling environmental flows and contaminant transports’ (Q3drm1.0/2.0), which can provide multiple selectable depth-averaged two-equation turbulence models with many powerful functions for water pollutant modeling.

Dr. Yu has a wealth of research and development experiences on the high-end environment simulation software, is familiar with the professional current situation, level and shortage. He has a good understanding of the dynamics of the world market, the needs, and the characteristics and ways of sales. Dr. Yu is striving to promote the applications, innovations and developments of environmental simulation and prediction software, and also to meet the challenges of urban air quality deterioration and water environment pollution.
