          18世纪法国植物学家Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau (1700--1782)是一个很了不起的人物。为了父亲的心愿他早年曾学习法律，但喜欢植物，逐步走上科学研究的道路。Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau对植物学、农业科学（如：果树学--pomology）、树木生理学有学术贡献。他在海事、艺术等领域也有重要成就。

          对于植物解剖学发展历史来说，Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau是一个值得研究的重要人物。1730—1731年间，他发表了有关梨的解剖学研究。1758年，Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau发表两卷本La physique des arbres（《树木生理学》）。他首次观察到形成层(cambium)，并首创(coin)这个专业术语。

        1735年，Louis Duhamel du Monceau被遴选为英国皇家学会会员（院士--FRS）；1738年成为法国科学院院士，后来还担任过法国科学院院长。

--1735: Elected to the Royal Society (London) on 23 Jan 1735(FRS);

--1738: Elected to the French Académie des Sciences;

--Served as president of the French Académie des Sciences (three times);

--1739: Appointed as an Inspector-General of the Marine (until 1752);

--1741: Co-founded a school of marine science;

--1755: Published Traité des Arbres et Arbustes;

--1758: Published La physique des arbres ( 2vols) (by Duhamel du Monceau);

--1767: Elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences;

--1782: Died in Paris at age of 82.
