Abstract Objective To explore the inhibitory action of antivirus compound (ATVC) on duck hepatitis B virus ( DHBV) by applying ATVC to treat duck hepatitis B viral infection. Methods Intravenous injection of DHBV was given to one-day Beijing ducks in experiment. Seven days later, the ducks received oral administration of ATVC with three different doses of 1.0 g/kg, 2.0 g/kg and 4.0 g/kg, twice a day, for 10 days continuously. The toxicity of ATVC and the effects of ATVC on DHBV-DNA were observed and the results were compared with those got from the use of Lamivudine. Results In the first batch of experiments, the content of DHBV-DNA in duck blood serum in the 4.0g/kg group decreased significantly 10 days after administration of ATVC and three days after drug withdrawal (P<0.05). The pairing statistics showed that the content of DHBV-DNA in duck blood serum decreased significantly in the 5th day after drug administration and 3rd of drug withdrawal in the 2.0g/kg group(P<0.01), while with no significant difference in the 1.0g/kg group. In the second batch of experiments, the pairing statistics showed that the content of DHBV-DNA decreased significantly in the 5th  day of drug administration in the 4.0g/kg group(P<0.05), in the 10th day of drug administration and three days after drug withdrawal in the 2.0g/kg group(P<0.01), and three days after drug withdrawal in the 1.0g/kg group(P<0.05) respectively. In the third batch of experiments, the pairing statistics showed that the content of DHBV-DNA decreased significantly in the 10th day of drug administration and three days after drug withdrawal in the 4.0g/kg group(P<0.01), in the 10th day of drug administration in the 2.0g/kg group(P<0.05), in the 5th and 10th days of drug administration in the 1.0g/kg group (P<0.05) respectively. In the contrast group of 50mg/kg, Lamivudine was given and the content of DHBV-DNA decreased significantly in the 10th day of drug administration (P<0.01). Conclusion ATVC can produce inhibitory action in the groups of 2.0-4.0g/kg when ATVC is given twice a day for ten days continuously, but when compared with the contrast group, only the 4.0g/kg group can produce obvious inhibitory action, with no obvious effects in the 1.0g/kg group.

Key words Duck hepatitis B virus( DHBV); DHBV-DNA; Antivirus conmpound; Lamivudine
