Once again, the home town baseball team, Red Sox, became the world champion again last night. Most Bostonian did not get to sleep until past 2:00am. With four championship in the last 14 years, this is becoming somewhat routine despite the excitement. I can still remember in 2004, when after a drought of 86 years with many heartbreaking losses, the Red Sox finally clinched the world championship title. I was in Beijing and only heard the barest detail on radio about the win (my two lifelong wishes were to see a Chinese American elected to the US Congress and the Red Sox to win a world championship title before I die). My excitement and frustration at the time can only be explained and understood by Chinese by saying that “ . . . you, a Chinese citizen, are travelling alone in a foreign country that does not play soccer, and you just heard that China has won the World Cup. You have no one to share or empathize with you. Even getting drunk by yourself is not satisfying”. Thus, here’s to sport fan around the World: Be patient, your day will come.
