这本是分子生物学的经典书籍，最大的特点就是详细和完整。除了细致的文字描述外，书中还配有大量的插图来介绍各种复杂的分子间相互作用。整本书按照由基础到复杂的顺序，依次介绍了基本分子（核酸，蛋白质）的化学结构和功能，遗传信息的传递，最常用的几种生化技术的原理和发展过程，之后介绍单个细胞里面各种机能，最后就是多细胞的协调和分化。由于我自己的研究还只限定在基因组和转录组上面，所以重点看了前面的几章，后面的部分只是翻阅了一遍。这本书可以看成是初中生物课本的完整版本，如果初中课本里面有提到一个没头没尾的专业名词的话，这本书就会有那个名词详细的介绍，像它的历史和发展过程，整个变化有哪些步骤，分为几种情况，等等。所以如果你感觉初中高中的生物知识太简单，阅读本书会让你体会到生命过程复杂和美妙。
