Polaris missile submarine program
     The Polaris missile was a submarine-launched, two-stage solid-fuel nuclear-armed ballistic missile (SLBM) built during the Cold War by Lockheed for the United States Navy.
     Known as a Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM), it first flew from Cape Canaveral on January 7, 1960. 
     The Polaris program started development in 1956. The USS "George Washington", the first US missile submarine, successfully launched the first Polaris missile from a submerged submarine on July 20, 1960.
    北极星（POLARIS）是美国第一代潜射弹道核导弹，采用两级固体发动机，代号VGM-27，1957年研制，1960年装备，先后发展了A1/A2/A3三种型号，分别装备华盛顿级、伊桑艾伦级、拉菲特级核潜艇，现已退役。各型号性能：长8.69-9.8米，直径1.37米，射程2200-4600千米，起飞重量12.9-16.4吨，命中精度927-1850米，核弹头重339-500千克，当量60-80万吨。A3型采用3弹头，当量为20X3万吨。除美国外，还有64枚A3型供4艘英国核潜艇使用.
