The awarding ceremony of the Derek de Solla Price MemorialMedal has become an essential part of the programme of ISSI conferences since the foundation of the Society in 1993. The Price Medal was conceived and launched by Tibor Braun, founder and Editor-in-Chief of the internationaljournal Scientometrics, and is periodically awarded by the journal to scientists with outstanding contributions to the fields of quantitative studies of science. The journal Scientometrics is an international journal for all quantitative aspects of the science of science, communication in science and science policy co-published by Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, and Springer, Dordrecht.

Eugene Garfield

(1925- )

Eugene Garfield is one of the ‘fathers’ of scientometricsand a scientific information pioneer, awarded the first Derek de Solla PriceMedal in 1984.He is Founder & Chairman Emeritus of the Institute forScientific Information.Garfield is the president and editor-in-chief of thejournal ‘The Scientist’.

Michael J. Moravcsik

(1928-1989)

Michael J. Moravcsik was called “multi-dimensional scholarand hero of third world science: physicist, scientometrician, music critic, andambassador of science.” (E. Garfield and H. Small).Till 1989 he was professorof theoretical physics at the University of Oregon in Eugene.

 Tibor Braun

(1932- )

Tibor Braun is director of the Information Science andScientometric Research Unit (ISSRU) at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.He isalso Professor of Chemistry at the Loránd Eötvös University.He is theEditor-in-Chief of the journal Scientometrics since its first appearance in1978.

Vasily V. Nalimov

(1910-1997)

Vasily V. Nalimov was a Russian polymath and visionary.In1969, he published jointly with Z. M. Mulchenko their pioneering book entitled“   ” (Scientometrics)in which they coined the term Scientometrics which is nowadaysused synonymously for bibliometrics and which is also the title of theinternational core journal of our field.

Henry Small

(1941- )

Henry Small is Chief Scientist and Director of ResearchService Group at Thomson ISI.He is one of the foremost scholars in the area ofdeveloping and applying co-citation analysis. This important work has resultedin a better understanding of the structure, relationships, and evolution of thesciences.Henry Small received several Awards including the JASIS Best PaperAward in 1987, and in 1998, the Award of Merit from the American Society forInformation Science & Technology (ASIST).He has been named the sixthPresident of ISSI for the period of four years in 2003.

Francis Narin

Francis Narin established CHI in 1968, an internationallyrecognized research consultancy specializing in developing evaluation tools andindicators for science and technology analysis.Narin is recognized as one ofthe world's leading experts on science and technology analysis. He started withthe analysis of science in the 1970s, before developing evaluations of patentsin the 1980s and later, in the 1990s, analysing linkage between science andtechnology.

Bertram C. Brookes

(1910-1991)

Bertram C. Brookes taught Information Science at theUniversity College London and later at City University London. He was a pioneerin information science and one of founders of informetrics.He was active inboth philosophy of science and quantitative science studies.

Jan Vlachy

(1937 – 2010)

 (Born February 7, 1937 in Plzeň, † 27 September 2010 in Berlin) was a Czech Information Science; he is considered one of the founders of Scientometrics.

András Schubert

(1946- )

András Schubert is Senior Scientist at the Institute forScience Policy Research, Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest (Hungary).Heis Editor of the journal Scientometrics.

Anthony F.J. Van Raan

(1945- )

Anthony F. J. Van Raan is Professor of Quantitative Studiesof Science at the University of Leiden, The Netherlands. He is the Director ofthe Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at University of Leidensince 1985.He is editor of the journal Research Evaluation.

Robert K. Merton

(1910 - 2003)

Robert K. Merton one of the most influential sociologists ofthe 20th century.He spent much of his professional life at Columbia Universitywhere he was Professor of Sociology 1941-1979 and University Professor Emeritusthereafter.He received numerous awards for his research, and was honorarymember of the New York Academy of Sciences and the European Academy ofSociology.His name is closely connected with the Matthew-Effect in science,Robert K. Merton revealed in the reward and communication system of science.

Ben Martin

Ben Martin is Professor of Science and Technology PolicyStudies, and Director of SPRU at University of Sussex.He received the 1997Price Award jointly with John Irvine.

Belver C. Griffith

(1931-1999)

Belver C. Griffith taught at Drexel's College of InformationScience and Technology from 1969 until he retired in 1991.He was a pioneer inthe field of information science and a world-renowned scientometrician studyingthe patterns in formal and information communication among scientists.

He received many awards for his research, among others, theDrexel University Research Achievement Award in 1980 and the 1982 ASIS“Outstanding Information Teacher Award”.

Wolfgang Glänzel

(1955- )

Wolfgang Glänzel is Director of the Centre for R&D Monitoring (ECOOM) and Professor at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven(Belgium).He is also Senior Scientist at the Library of the Hungarian Academyof Sciences in Budapest.He is Associate Editor-in-Chief of the journal Scientometrics and Secretary/Treasurer of ISSI.科学计量学杂志的主编，谦逊和蔼！Nice！

(1951- )

Henk Moed is Senior Scientific Advisor at Elsevier. Till2010 he was Senior Researcher at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies(CWTS) and Professor at Leiden University (The Netherlands).Since 1981, heworks on science indicators and quantitative studies of science at LeidenUniversity. Current work in projects involves bibliometric analysis in relationto aspects of research performance.
