Abstract: The isotope-equipped GCMs(general circulation models) are useful tools to investigate the isoscape inprecipitation and water vapor, especially for the regions without enough in-situobservations. To study the spatial distribution and seasonal variation ofprecipitation isotopic composition in arid central Asia, severalisotope-equipped GCMs are applied, and the long-term observations in twostations are used to verify the GCM-simulated results. Generally, seasonalityof isotopic composition can be well simulated in each GCM, and the values of δ18O inprecipitation are larger in summer months (from April to October) and lower inwinter months (from November to March). Higher latitude usually shows lowervalues of δ18O in precipitation, and lower latitude has higher values. Thevalues of δ18O are relatively low in the eastern section, and higher in thewestern section. Among these simulations, ECHAM is good at describing the isotopiccomposition in the study region, which can be seen from the mean absolute error(MAE) and root-mean-square error (RMSE). The ECHAM-derived values of δ18O inprecipitation positively correlate with the observed series, and thecorrelation coefficient based on ECHAM is the largest among these GCMs.

大气环流模式(GCM)近年来被广泛应用于降水和水汽氢氧同位素的模拟,是传统地面同位素监测的重要延伸,有助于理解水同位素的动态过程和内在机理。然而,不同的GCM模拟效果参差不齐,对于特定的研究区或特定的时段而言,各种GCM的适用性需要深入探讨。

因此,西北师范大学地理与环境科学学院的王圣杰、张明军等研究人员,利用稳定水同位素比较小组第二阶段(SWING2)近期发布的几种国际上主流的GCM,包括ECHAMLMDZMIROCisoGSM等,结合新疆乌鲁木齐与和田的同位素数据,较为系统地分析了GCM模拟结果在亚洲中部干旱区的适用性。

文章以《Comparison of GCM-simulated isotopiccompositions of precipitation in arid central Asia》为题发表在《地理学报英文版》(《Journal of Geographical Sciences》)上。
