This thesis examines the possibilities andadvantages of incorporating the use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) intooperational use by local public safety agencies. The use of UAS has become avital tool for the military but still has not become a tool used by domesticpolice forces. This thesis explores the options of using this type oftechnology, such as an economical alternative or enhancement to existingaviation programs and better situational awareness for tactical operations. Inaddition, to reviewing issues and concerns related to privacy considerations;this thesis addresses program implementation, creation of best practices policyand procedures, benefits to community safety, and flight regulations andrestrictions under the oversight of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
