近年来,多媒体产品的发展越来越快、需求越来越多,导致网络带宽和存储设备的不足。因此,数据压缩理论对于减少数据冗余节省更多的硬件空间和传输带宽变得越来越重要。数据压缩是非常有用的,因为它有助于减少诸如硬盘空间或传输带宽等昂贵资源的消耗。本文在第一章中简要介绍了图像压缩的基本理论,第二章介绍两种典型的标准:JPEGJPEG 2000。最后,将在第三章中介绍新提出的图像压缩算法——形状自适应图像压缩

 

In recent years, the development and demandof multimedia product grows increasingly fast, contributing to insufficientbandwidth of network and storage of memory device. Therefore, the theory ofdata compression becomes more and more significant for reducing the dataredundancy to save more hardware space and transmission bandwidth. In computerscience and information theory, data compression or source coding is theprocess of encoding information using fewer bits or other information-bearingunits than an unencoded representation. Compression is useful because it helpsreduce the consumption of expensive resources such as hard disk space ortransmission bandwidth. In this paper, we briefly introduce the fundamentaltheory of image compression in chapter 1, two typical standards - JPEG and JPEG2000 will be described in chapter 2. Finally, the newly proposed imagecompression algorithm – Shape Adaptive image Compression will be introduced inchapter 3.
