佛掌沙丘位于米林县丹娘乡的雅鲁藏布江北岸，离雅鲁藏布大峡谷不远，因形如双手合十的佛掌而得名。沙丘的规模仅次于卧龙大沙丘。该沙丘位于雅鲁藏布江中下游强风口地段，秋末至春末期间劲风如飓，该沙丘前后河床上因枯水期而露头的河沙，年复一年吹送搬堆积，便形成了这一特兀的地貌景观。
