I read a news in Washington post entitled The best and worst countries for women. They cited a report by TrustLaw (a provider of legal assistance and information) which provided some information of women's status in G-20 countries, based on factors such as domestic violence laws, access to education, workplace opportunities and rights. The Group of twenty finance ministers and central bank governors (G-20) is a group of finance ministers and central bank governors from 20 major economies. The G-20 is composed of 19 countries and the European Union. The G-20 economies account for more than 80 percent of the gross world product, 80 percent of world trade, and two-thirds of the world population.

 

1. Canada

One-third of federally appointed judges and 62 percent of university graduates in Canada are female.

 

2. Germany

Germany has a female head of state, but only 12.5% of board members of publicly listed companies are women.

 

3. United Kingdom

Women make up 22% of judges in Britain.

 

4. Australia

About a third of parliamentary seats are held by women in Australia (for the US Congress, 17%).

 

5. France

Women get 16 weeks of maternity leave with full pay. Women make up 30% of the part-time workforce, compared wiht 5% of men.

 

6.United States

Women earned 60 % of all masters degrees in 2008-2009 but  22.9 million women don't have health insurance (2012 Census).

 

7. Japan

life expectancy 87 years, but only 11% of seats in the parliament's lower house

 

8. Italy

1.2 million women have been sexually harassed at work. spend 3 times as many hours on housework as men do.

 

9. Argentina

More than a third of Argentine parliamentary seats are held by women.

38.9% pay gap for full-time workers.

120 days of maternity leave at full pay. nearly 250,000 children are estimated to be involved in prostitution.

only 26% of women of working age were employed in Turkey in 2011. 26% of brides in 2010 were aged 16-19.

 

13. Russia

14,000 women die annually from domestic abuse.

 

14. China

Because of the "son preference" in China, about one million girls were dead or "missing" at birth in 2008, according to the World Bank.

 

15. Mexico

25% suffering sexual abuse by a partnet.

 

16. South Africa

Women are well-represented in the lower house of South Africa's parliament. but more than 66,000 sexual offenses reported to police 2010-2011

 

17. Indonesia

nearly 90% of women have suffered sexual harassemnt in the workplace

 

18. Saudi Arabia

Women aren't allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia and were only given the right to vote in 2011.

 

19. India

56,000 maternal deaths in 2010. 45% of girls are married before age 18.
