批判性思考Vs.贪婪与恐惧

人在赌局,最容易犯的两个错误就是:贪婪与恐惧。

 

因为贪婪,他可能会说一些违心的漂亮话,以期增加赢的机率,以及显得自己更有面子。

 

因为恐惧,他可能会放弃一些自己的原则,从而避免损失,以免显得自己像个傻瓜。

 

但我相信我不会,因为我知道,我首先是一名教师,而作为一名教师,我的一个基本原则是,我只教学生我相信的东西。

 

在本周二刚刚结束自动化专业导论课上,我跟学生讲:“我们把大家召进大学里来,很重要的一个目的,就是培养大家进行“批判性思考”的能力”。让我们首先重温一下网络上对批判性思考的解释:

 

通俗的讲,批判性思考就是:对一切不轻信、不盲从、不屈服、不武断、不虚骄、不固定、不保守.

从定义上说,批判性思考是面对做什么或者相信什么而作出合理的决定的一系列思考和技能策略。其中合理性就要求我们对对象的解决要经过理解、分析和评论的过程

 

下面,我就把过去两天我针对“百度TheBIG Talk奇点大学公开课”以及罗辑思维“智力赌局”所做的初步调研结果公布与此,大家可以自行作出判断。

 

首先吐槽一下罗胖,在“智力赌局”的邀约中,罗胖写道:

“奇点大学的常规培训大概费用为2.5万美元(约15万元人民币),这样一场高强度课程的价格怎么也得是2万人民币吧?”

 

不知道是有意还是无意,罗胖没有告诉我,奇点大学的常规培训是一个为期10周的培训。如果按每周学习5天计算,平均每天的费用是500美元。人家或许还提供实验设备、电脑以及住宿。这让我有点不爽。

 

不过我知道罗胖不是为了骗钱,我这两天多次跟周围的朋友解释,如果一个人,每天早上给你讲一段他最新的感悟,每周解析一本书讲给你听,坚持了两年,就为骗你两万块钱,那绝对是世界上最有耐心和最有内涵的骗子,这钱值得给他。

 

其次,百度的The BIG Talk号称定期邀请全球顶尖的科学家来华演讲交流。但我的学生,一名大四的本科生,在google 完这次演讲的三个人后,向我汇报:“老师,找不到这三个人发表的学术文章,有的也是好多年以前的,他们是一帮工程师,经常在世界各地到处演讲…...。”

 

我现在正在看他们的过去的演讲视频,在我下一篇博客,如果时间还来得及的话,我会对他们这次的演讲内容作出一个预测。

Biography

NeilJacobstein Co-chairs the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Track atSingularity University on the NASA Research Park campus in Mountain ViewCalifornia. He served as President of Singularity University from October 2010to October 2011. Jacobstein is a Distinguished Visiting Scholar in the StanfordUniversity Media X Program, where his research focuses on augmented decisionsystems. He Chaired AAAI’s 17th Innovative Applications of ArtificialIntelligence Conference, and continues to review technical papers on the IAAITechnical Program Committee.

Neil hasserved as a technical consultant on AI research and development projects for:DARPA, NSF, NASA, NIH, EPA, DOE, the U.S. Army and Air Force, GM, Ford, Boeing,Applied Materials, NIST, and other agencies. He was CEO of TeknowledgeCorporation, a pioneering AI company, where he worked on AI applicationssystems for industry and government. He worked as a graduate research intern inAlan Kay’s Learning Research Group at Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center (PARC),and was a consultant in PARC’s Software Concepts Group.

Jacobsteinearned his B.S. degree in EnvironmentalSciences, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Wisconsin, and hisM.S. degree in HumanEcology from the University of Texas, under a USPHS scholarship withNASA’s Environmental Physiology Simulation Program. He spent four years doingenvironmental research as a Research Associate at the Center for the Biology ofNatural Systems at Washington University and CUNY.

Jacobsteinis a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute. He has moderated AspenInstitute Socrates Programs on the technical and ethical implications ofadvanced technologies, and serves on the Socrates Program Committee. Neil is deeply interdisciplinary,and has a keen sense of howthe arts and sciences can integrate. Since 1992, he has served asChairman of the Institute for Molecular Manufacturing, a 501c3 nanotechnologyR&D organization. Jacobstein contributed to the 2005 National Academy ofSciences workshop on the feasibility of molecular manufacturing, and the 2007 Foresight Roadmap forProductive Nanosystems. He is the primary author of the Foresight Guidelinesfor the responsible development of nanotechnology. Neil has given invited talks worldwide ontechnical, business, and ethical implications of AI, nanotechnology, andmolecular manufacturing. He is a member of AAAS, AAAI, IEEE, and ACM.Jacobstein has served in a variety of executive and technical advisory rolesfor industry, nonprofit,and government organizations.
