King's College London and Royal Holloway, London

Salary: £33,476 to £39,528 per annum inclusive of London Allowance

Hours: Full time

Contract Type: Fixed term (3 year) posts

Closing Date: 13 March 2015

Start Date: June 2015

As part of an EPSRC-funded collaboration between Royal Holloway London, King’s College London, Durham and York Universities “Strong Correlation meets Materials Modelling: DMFT and GW in CASTEP”,  two fixed-term (3 year) postdoctoral-level post are offered in the  Physics departments at Royal Holloway London and King's College, London.

CASTEP is the leading UK code for calculating the properties of  materials from first principles. Using density functional theory, it can  simulate a wide range of materials and compute physical properties  including energetics, structure at the atomic level, vibrational and  response properties. In particular it has a wide range of spectroscopic  features that link directly to experiment, including vibrational,  electronic, NMR, and core level spectra.

The successful candidates will work within an internationally recognised  team of scientists in Royal Holloway London, King’s College London,  Durham and York to develop methods to model strongly correlated electron  systems, in particular Dynamical Mean Field Theory (DMFT) and linear  response GW.

You should have a PhD degree in computational science, theoretical  physics, chemistry, materials science or a related discipline. A strong  background in software development and/or in the development of  electronic structure methods based on plane-waves and pseudopotentials  is also essential.

One post is based in Egham, Surrey where Royal Holloway College is  situated in a beautiful, leafy campus and within commuting distance from  London. The other is based in the Strand Campus of King's College in  central London.

For informal discussions, please contact Professor Keith Refson Keith.Refson@rhul.ac.uk or Dr Cedric Weber Cedric.Weber@kcl.ac.uk. To view further details and to apply please visit
