刚刚收到任东来教授夫人吴耘老师发来Kenneth Louie & Chen Qi教授夫妇悼任东来唁函，吴耘老师在信中说,“Louie 教授是我们的老朋友，去年六月，他和太太来我家做客，我们在附近一家餐馆吃饭。饭席间，东来悄悄地给我看他的腿，上面出现了大片紫癜，我们都以为是喝了啤酒的缘故。后来，听了医生的介绍，才知道他那时的病情已非常糟糕。”

Our Deepest Sympathy toProfessor Ren Donglai’s Family:

We are extremely saddened tolearn about the passing of Professor Ren Donglai.  And we want to express our heartfeltcondolences to Professor Ren’s family for their loss.

Professor Ren was a giftedteacher, a dedicated scholar, and an outstanding colleague.  But above all, he was a kind and generousfriend.  All of us who had the privilegeand pleasure of knowing him will miss his gentle nature as well as hisboundless enthusiasm, which inspired countless students throughout his careerat the Hopkins-Nanjing Center.

Although this is a time ofgreat sadness, we also remember with great fondness the warm friendship we haveshared with Professor Ren for almost twenty years.  We will never forget his kindness andgenerosity.

In this time of sorrow, weoffer our love, comfort, and support.
