研究人员发现乌贼环齿（squid ring teeth，SRT）中的一种蛋白质可以转变成纤维和薄膜，用于制造坚韧、柔软和可生物降解的塑料。

一只平均大小的乌贼只含有大约100毫克的SRT蛋白，但是宾夕法尼亚州立大学的Melik Demirel和他的团队已经通过基因工程将大肠杆菌培养出来。这意味着可以产生更多的蛋白质。
