我常常想，澳洲的人不多，在生态领域还是有一些出类拔萃的学者，Ray Leuning就是其中的一个。他今年要退休了，CSIRO 6月在堪培拉举办一个研讨会以示纪念。我有幸被邀请参加。

Dear Professor Yu

Each year the science team of CSIRO’s Office of the Chief Executive funds a small number of symposia on cutting-edge science. The aim of the symposia is to increase the level of scientific discussion across CSIRO, collaborations with universities and interactions with top international experts in new and frontier areas of science. This year our proposal on “Water and carbon coupling at regional scales: key issues and a new approach” was successful. Several distinguished scientists in the field, including Dr Chris Milly and Professor Gaby Katul (USA) and Dr Ray Leuning, have accepted our invitations to give keynote presentations. The symposium will be held at the CSIRO Discovery Centre, Canberra over two days (25 to 26^th June 2012). A number of presentations will be given during the first day and small-group discussions will take place on the second day. The number of participants will be kept quite small (<35) to encourage good interactions among all participants. Dr Ray Leuning will formally retire from CSIRO on 30^th June 2012 after a brilliant career over 33 years with four CSIRO divisions; we hope that all participants will join us to celebrate his significant contribution to the field during the symposium. 

We would like to invite you to attend the symposium and, if you would like, to give a short presentation (about 15 minutes).  We would be most grateful if you can reply to us by email within the next two week, including the title of your presentation. We are discussing with a publisher about a special journal issue. If we are successful, you will be invited to submit a paper to the special issue within two months after the symposium.

We will pay for all your travel expenses, accommodation and food costs for attending the symposium. You will be contacted for travel arrangements after you accept our invitation.
