I. 科技英语的特点

    科技英语与日常生活英语及文学写作英语不同，主要表现在以下几方面：

1、科技英语中专业术语、数据、公式、表格等较多，陈述的是科学实验事实、原理，因此用词严谨、结构严密、逻辑性强。

2、科技英语同一单词或词组有多种词义，特别是因学科不同而有不同词义。

    例如，（1）reduce，reduction 约化，简化，折合（数学）；还原（化学）； reduced product space 约化积空间（数学）；reduced pressure 对比压强， reduced law 对比定律（物理）。（2）plasma 等离子体（物理）；血浆（医学）；深绿玉髓（矿业）。（3）dimension 量纲（化学，物理）；维，维度（数学）。词（组）相同而表义不相同的例句如下： 

（1）There is something wrong with the works.

     这些工件出了毛病（有问题）。

（2）Heat can be converted into mechanical work.

     热可以转换为机械功。

（3）The screw has worked out of the joint.

     螺丝钉脱落了（脱离了接头）。

（4）The medicine worked.

     这种药起作用了。

（5）The 5 a.m. train has long been taken off.

     早5点的那趟列车早就取消了。

（6）The plane took off.

     飞机起飞了。

（7）They will take off ten percent of the nonproductive expenses.

    他们要削减10%的非生产性开支。 

（8）A plasma is a quasi-neutral gas of charged (that contains

     approximately equal numbers of positive and negative electric

     charges) and neutralparticles which exhibits collective behavior.

     等离子体是带电（含正负电荷数大致相等）粒子和中性粒子组成的表现集体

     行为的一种准中性气体。

（9）Plasma is the light yellow liquid part of blood containing water

     (about 90% of it), soluble plasma proteins (about 10% of it) and

     a small amount of electrolytes, nutrients, enzymes, hormones,

     cholesterol and so on.

     血浆是血液中呈淡黄色的液体部分，包括大约90%的水，10%的溶质血浆蛋

     白，以及少量的电解质、营养素、酶类、激素类及胆固醇等。

（10）Dimensionless quantities in physics and chemistry are those that

      require no unit.

      物理和化学中无量纲的量就是不需要单位的量。

（11）3D here is just tri-dimension (three-dimension).

      此处的3D就是三维。

（12）The reduced mobility of ions was measured from this experiment.

      此实验测量了各种离子的约化迁移率。

（13）The specific volume translation is generalized as a function of

      the critical parameters and reduced temperature.

      比容平移量被归纳为临界参数和对比温度的函数。

3、科技英语常见强调句型

   （1）It is clear that…  很清楚…

   （2）It is a fact that…  事实上…

   （3）It is evident that…  显然…

   （4）It is well known that…  众所周知…

   （5）It will be seen from this that…  由此可见…

   （6）It is said (stated) that…  据说…

   （7）It must be admitted that…  必须承认…

   （8）It is understood that…  毋庸置疑…

   （9）It is universally recognized that…  普遍认为，大家公认…

   （10）It is certain that…  一定，必然…

4、大量使用分词及其短语

   （1）The floating needle of a compass always points to the north and

        south.

        罗盘的悬浮针总是指向南北。

   （2）When heated, ice will be changed into water.

        加热时，冰会变成水。    

   （3）A high voltage being applied to the apparatus, the positive ions

        move toward the negative terminal.

        给这个仪器施加高电压后，阳离子就会向负电极终端移动。

5、大量使用不定式

   （1）To research water is our duty.

        研究水是我们的责任。

   （2）The purpose of the experiment is to know the properties

        of natural magnets.

        此实验的目的就是要了解天然磁铁的性质。

   （3）They have begun to build a large plant.

        他们已经开始建造一座大型工厂了。

   （4）I have some questions about the moon to ask you. 

        我有些关于月球的问题要问你。

   （5）The temperature is high enough to change water into steam.

         温度高得足以使水变为蒸汽。

   （6）Water is caused to flow on the earth’s surface by gravity.

         重力（地心引力）作用引起水在地球表面流动。

6、通常用被动语态陈述客观事实与真理

（1）We are given warmth and light by the sun.

     太阳给予我们光和热。

（2）More and more iron and steel will be produced by our plant. 

     我们厂将会生产越来越多的钢铁。
