为了展现国内外在太赫兹物理领域的代表性研究成果,“Chinese Physics B” (CPB) 编辑部邀请曹俊诚研究员和施卫教授作为客座编辑,组织了“Terahertz Physics”专题,至2020年第9期已经全部正式出版,敬请关注!

太赫兹(Terahertz,THz)波通常是指频率在100 GHz–10 THz,相应波长在3 mm–30 μm范围内,介于毫米波与红外光之间的电磁波,其长波端与毫米波相重合,而短波端与远红外波段相重合。THz技术在物理学、材料科学、生命科学、天文学、信息科学以及国防安全等方面具有重大的应用前景,被誉为改变未来世界的十大技术之一。世界上许多国家已经将THz技术作为战略性科技发展方向。中国也较早地制定了THz科学与技术的发展规划,并取得了长足的进步。同时,中国已成功主办了国际红外毫米波太赫兹国际会议(IRMMW-THz)、国际超快现象与太赫兹波国际研讨会(ISUPTW)等有重要影响力的相关国际会议。


近年来,得益于THz物理的深入研究,THz技术的应用也取得了快速发展。(1)在通信方面,人们对通信速度的要求越来越高。根据香农定理,为了提供足够的带宽,需要采用更高频的载波。继5G技术之后,在不久的将来6G技术将应运而生。THz频段是6G技术发展的方向之一。(2)在成像方面,由于THz波具有很高的时间和空间相干性,其对非极性材料有较好的穿透性,可以对塑料、陶瓷、泡沫和介电材料等进行灵敏的探测,能有效鉴别多种常规手段所无法识别的伪装和隐身等,所以基于THz波的探测与成像技术,可为重要场所的公共安全保障提供全新的技术手段。(3)在生物医学方面,由于THz频率对应于生物大分子转动与振动能级,根据这一特性多数生物分子在THz波段会存在独特的吸收峰,因此THz光谱技术在辨别生物组织成分和医学病理检测等方面具有重要的应用价值。此外,THz技术还是射电天文学极其重要的观测手段,2019年人类历史上首个黑洞照片就是由THz波段的望远镜观测获得的。


此次CPB特别推出“Terahertz Physics”专题,邀请了国内外活跃在THz物理和应用研究领域的科研工作者撰写了18篇相关论文,包括4篇综述论文,反映了国内外关于THz相关研究的现状以及最新研究进展,其它14篇为研究论文,具体内容涵盖了THz物理、THz超材料、THz辐射源、THz探测以及THz成像等研究领域。希望这些工作能促进国内外THz领域的研究与学术交流,同时在一定程度上推动THz科学与技术的发展。
