How many steps to have a paper accepted?

Today I see a cartoon about the topic of paper acception. It's a long and arduous road from submission to acception. Many people will be involved in the process, but mainly two kinds of people are involved, reviewers and editors. And it will involve many steps too: anti-plagiarism checking, initial review, peer-review, revision and response, then for some papers peer-review and revision again (in most cases, more than once), and finally accepted.
A quick and smooth process, a fair judgement (by the referees) and constructive comments and suggestions from reviewers' and editors' are very important for the authors and safeguarding the journal quality!
