After having seen the not-so-distance lights in Macau for two nights, I decided to take a day trip.
Even though it is so close by, it took me a while to get to the Hengqing Port (because I am staying at a huge construction site and there is no easy way to get in or out). After having agreed to pay for a r/t taxi fare, I still had to wait for almost an hour because the taxi driver "got lost."
Crossing boarder took more time than I expected, because the two ports are connected by a paid shuttle that is not very frequent. If you don't have RMB3, you have to give up the smallest bill (hopefully not RMB100).
After entering Macau, there are free buses to take you to MGM, or a few other hotels. I had no intention to gamble, and told the staff so. She said it does not matter. Of course, free ride may not leave right away, but I didn't know how to take a "real" bus so I waited impatiently.
I was not prepared to take a day trip to Macau, so I needed to buy a map right away or I would be as good as a blind... I saw a small vendor by the beach, and asked to buy a map. The woman was kind, and said that she would give me a map for free if I buy a bottle of water for HKD5. I was more than happy to have some water. With a map in hand, I was suddenly in control, almost.
ps. Here are some tips for visitors like me.
1) Get a map, and study what you want to see;
2) Bring lots of coins in HKD, if you want to use the buses as your means to get around, preferably in one or two dollars (because there is no change);
3) Spend at least one night there, because the lights will hide the ugly buildings from your view. (I didn't because I wanted to go with friends for such activity.)
