记得我很小很小的时候，妈妈突然心血来潮教我英文。

练的还是“花体”。结果，结果，就没有结果了。一直到小学五年级，学校开英语课，我的英语没有任何长进。但是，我以为我和that早已是闺蜜。

近半个世纪过去了，我带着母亲的失望，放弃科研成了自由撰稿人。今天改的一篇文章不长，也不难改。但是，但是，一直在跟“它（that）”纠缠着。改完文章后，去看了一场老电影，The African Queen (1951)。却依然是对“它”（that）有着剪不断的思念。于是，决定写出来与大家分享。

栗子1:

 错的：The seasonal variability in salinity is the same as temperature.

旁白：Don’t compare apple with banana. Don’t compare “variability” with “temperature.”

可以用：The seasonal variability in salinity is the same as that in temperature.

栗子2:

错的：The rising of temperature that is part of climate change needs to be investigated.

可以用：The rising of temperature, which is part of climate change, needs to be investigated.

旁白: “which is part of climate change” 是定rising，不是定temperature。这种情况只能用which；美式英语which之前需要加 可爱的逗号。

对了，我以前一直反对用“错句”，解释错在哪里，怕误人子弟。但是，今天实在找不到别的办法来“诉苦”。
