AIMS: There is still no effective way to save asurvivinghealthymindwhen there is critical organ failure in the body. The next frontier in CTA is allo-head and body reconstruction (AHBR), and just asanimalmodelswere key in the development of CTA, they will be crucial in establishing theproceduresof AHBR for clinical translation. METHODS AND RESULTS: Our approach, pioneered inmice, involves retaining thedonorbrain stemandtransplantingtherecipienthead. Our preliminary data inmicesupport that this allows for retention of breathing and circulatory function. Critical aspects of the current protocol include avoidingcerebralischemiathrough cross-circulation (donorto recipient) and retaining thedonorbrain stem. Successful clinical translation of AHBR will become a milestone ofmedicalhistoryand potentially could save millions of people. CONCLUSIONS: This experimental study has confirmed a method to avoidcerebralischemiaduring thesurgeryand solved an important part of the problem of how to accomplish long-termsurvivalafter transplantation and preservation of thedonorbrain stem.

In 1970, the first cephalosomatic linkage was achieved in themonkey. However, thetechnologydid not exist for reconnecting thespinal cord, and this line of research was no longer pursued. In this paper, an outline for the first total cephalic exchange in man is provided and spinal reconnection is described. The use of fusogens,specialmembrane-fusion substances, is discussed in view of the first human cord linkage. Several human diseases without cure might benefit from theprocedure.

CONCLUSIONS: By diluting inflammatory mediators, apheresisleads to a rapid improvement in cardiac function during severehumoralrejection afterhead transplantation.
From 1978 to 1989, we carried out 15 resections of singlevertebralbodies, with homologous femoralhead transplantation, for malignant and benign lesions of the spine.
