       Georges Depape 是20世纪上半叶法国著名的古植物学家，主要研究新近纪（新生代）植物化石(Tertiary—旧称“第三纪”)。除了研究产自法国本土的研究材料，他还研究了西班牙、北非以及中国的植物化石标本。

       这篇论文的植物化石标本采自中国的热河省境内的围场（现属河北省）。1927年，法国著名的地质古生物学家Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (德日进, 1881--1955)认为围场化石点的地质年代为新近纪。后来，还有其他研究人员对该地区的地层学问题开展了深入研究。

        论文在中国天津的“北疆博物院”系列出版物第6号出版(Publications du Musée Hoang Ho Pai Ho 6)。这么做的原因是：植物化石材料采自中国，论文成果发表在中国地区的刊物上，便于中国读者参考。

       不过，“北疆博物院”的前身为“黄河白河博物馆”，由法国传教士、知名地质古生物学家Emile Licent（中文名“桑志华”, 1876--1952）创建于1914年。1925年，扩建后更名为“北疆博物院”。1957年，又更名为“天津自然博物馆”。参见：
