美国古植物学家Benton Maurice Stidd是研究“虎石子”--煤核(Coal ball)植物化石专家。Benton M. Stidd曾跟随Gilbert Arthur Leisman (1924--1996)，Wilson Nichols Stewart （1917--2004），Tom L. Phillips（1931--）等学习古植物学。1968年，Benton M. Stidd毕业于伊利诺斯大学厄巴纳-香槟分校（University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign—UIUC），获得博士学位。Benton M. Stidd在其职业生涯主要供职于西伊利诺斯大学生物科学系(Dept. of Biological Sciences, Western Illinois University, Macomb, Ill.)。
