   德裔美国古植物学家Hermann W.  Pfefferkorn (1940--) 于1968年从University of Muenster (Germany) 获得博士学位，导师为德国科学院院士（Leopoldina）、著名地质学家Franz Wilhelm Lotze (1903--1971)。1968—1969年，Hermann W. Pfefferkorn来美国University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign（UIUC）跟随Tom L. Phillips 和 Ralph Langenheim,Jr.从事博士后研究，开始他在美国的古植物学和地质学之职业生涯。
