USGS地质学家Charles Brian Read (1907—1979)
美国地质学家Charles Brian Read(1907—1979)自1930年起开始供职于美国联邦地质调查局(The United States Geological Survey --USGS) ，直到1972年退休。他服务USGS长达42年之久。
Charles Brian Read从事过多方面的工作，如：地质填图、军用地质、化石燃料及矿物勘探等。他的学术研究主要是古植物学和生物地层学，他研究泥盆纪到第三纪的植物化石。
1907年: Charles Brian Read出生于 Texas；
1927年: B.A. Texas Technological College, Botany and geology；
1927—1930年:在University of California at Berkeley做研究生；
1930年：正值美国经济大萧条，Charles Brian Read谋到美国联邦地质调查局的一份工作，担任科学家助理[an assistant scientist (Geology)]，年薪为2,600美元。时任美国联邦地质调查局的著名科学家、美国科学院院士David White（1862--1935）为Charles Brian Read提供了这一工作机会；
1930—1941年：Charles Brian Read主要在USGS古生物与地层分局工作，他和古植物学家Roland W. Brown(1893--1961)在USNM同在一个办公室，也有不少合作；
1941年: Charles Brian Read转到USGS燃料分局工作，他的工作地点转移到新墨西哥州北部的Albuquerque市（Albuquerque, New Mexico），与Gordon H. Wood Jr. （1919--1986)等人密切合作；
1960年：Charles Brian Read调回USGS古生物与地层分局，从事一些行政管理工作；
1972年: Charles Brian Read退休；
1979年: Charles Brian Read在休士敦病逝（ Houston, Texas），但安葬在他曾经工作过的Albuquerque （New Mexico）。
