∮ 1 德国杰出孢粉学家Robert Potonié (1889--1974)

      德国杰出孢粉学家Robert Potonié (1889--1974)是深入研究化石孢子花粉的先驱人物。他的父亲Henry Potonié (1857--1913)是杰出的古植物学家，是古植物学研究的“柏林学派”创始人。Robert Potonié的成长深受父亲的影响。

      Robert Potonié参加了两次世界大战。1914—1918年的第一次世界大战中断了学业。1938年，Robert Potonié再次应征入伍，参加第二次世界大战，不幸成为苏联军队的俘虏。作为战俘他在西伯利亚被关押多年，于1948年获释返回德国。

      1920年，Robert Potonié 获Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin博士学位。之后，曾供职于柏林的普鲁士地质调查局(Prussian Geological Survey, Berlin)、柏林技术学院(Teclinischen Hochscliule of Berlin)。二战结束后，Robert Potonié供职于德国地质调查局Krefeld分局的古植物及煤田地质部（Division of Palaeobotany and Coal Geology in the German Geological Survey at Krefeld）和波恩大学。

         Robert Potonié主要研究第三纪和石炭纪煤层的化石孢粉，描述了很多器官属形态(Organ genera)，发表了200多篇论文，培养了很多孢粉学人才。

∮ 2 Brief life chronology of German palynologist Robert Potonié (1889--1974)

--1889: Born in Berlin [Father: German palaeobotanist  Henry Potonié (1857--1913 ];

--1909: Began to study botany and chemistry at the from the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin or “Universitätzu Berlin”;

--1914—1918: Entered into the World War I;

--1920: Completed a dissertation, entitled “Der mikrochemische Nachweis fossiler kutinisierter Zellwände sowie fossiler Zellulose und seine Bedeutung für die Geologie der Kohle”, and obtained a doctorate degree from the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin or “Universität zu Berlin”;

--1920—1923: Hired by the Prussian Geological Survey in Berlin;

--1922: Passed the qualification examination as a lecturer at the Teclinischen Hochscliule of Berlin with a thesis, entitled “Ligninabstammungder Kohle vom paläontologischen Standpunkt aus betrachtet”;

--1923:  Began to work as professor at the Teclinischen Hochscliule of Berlin;

--1938: Joined in the German Army, then was captured on a Prison of War (POW) until 1948;

--Served as Division Director of Palaeobotany and Coal Geology in the German Geological Survey at Krefeld;

--1950: Appointed as Professor at the University of Bonn;

--1955: Retired as the Division Director of the Geological Survey;

--1955—1966: Served as Honorary Professorship at the University of Bonn;

--1957—1958: Worked a visiting scientist at the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany (Lucknow, India);

--1974: Died in Krefeld at age of 85.
