Fornew readers and those who request to be “好友 good friends” please read my 公告first.

My wife and I went to Costa Rica, Central America  to start a nature tour involving rain forest, volcanic trails, and nature parks. For five days, there won’t be air conditioning, TV, very sparse internet connections, and other modern conveniences. Here is a photo journal of our nature journey (2/2/09-2/8/09).

Costa Rica (the rich coast), known as the Switzerland of the Americas, has a population of 4 million and an area slightly larger than Taiwan. It has a stable agricultural based economy with banana the number one export (600 million dollar per year), coffee and pineapple vying for second, and tourism the fourth. It has no army and politically neutral since independence in 1802.

Costa Rica has over 200 volcanoes five of which are active. We visited the Paos Volcano which has a spectacular sulfur lagoon and steaming vents.

Costa Rica has mountain ranges on its two coasts (Pacific and Caribbean) and a central valley in between.

CR rains frequently has many rivers and rain forests.

Watching for wild life along many of its rivers are favorite tourist activities.

(The joke is that this immobile crocodile is actually fake plastic with “Made in China” stamped on its belly)

The following photos were taken in the River Negro near the border of Nicaragua

We finished the tour on 2/10 and arriving home in Boston after midnight.

A tired but happy couple.
