Fornew readers and those who request to be “好友 good friends”,  please  read my 公告first.(See also notes added 1/25/09 below) If you had actually listened to the end of the short video about Chinese American restaurants as recommended in my blog article –Chinese Restaurant of the World (2) dated 1/12/09.  You might have noticed an ad for another short video with the above title featuring the speaker Michael Shermer who founded the Skeptics Society and publishes Skeptics Magazine. He dedicates his life to debunking myths, superstitions, bad science,  and urban legends, and also explaining why we believe them. http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/michael_shermer_on_believing_strange_things.html

This video is in the same spirit of the Chinese-American restaurant one. All my earlier remarks in http://www.sciencenet.cn/m/user_content.aspx?id=209847 apply.

Happy listening.

(Notes added 1/25/09: I just learned from the Sunday New York Times today that the two short videos I reported above are actually part of a larger phenomenon called TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) talks that that have a significant addictive following on the Internet. TED is described by devotees as intoxicating pleasures of an intellectual lecture series. To me, they are a kind of visual blogs by rather smart people with something interesting to say. There are more than 370 of such short videos on all kinds of subjects. The two I happened across showed its diversity. Thus, happy addiction! I intend to watch more.)
