Thanksgiving Dinner Chinese Style
Thanksgiving is the biggest four-day long holiday in the US every year. It is the time when family get together for reunions. Several millions of people travel and join together for the traditional turkey dinner which consisted of a roast turkey with stuffing and all kinds of side dishes such as sweet potatoes, and other fancy vegetables. This year with the pandemic, travel and get together of group of people not in the same household are strongly discouraged. Our families are no different and opted for Zoom get together instead. Thus, my wife and I were spending the holiday alone. Cooking a whole 12-pound (the smallest bird one can get) turkey seems to be a waste of material and time. Our younger Lexington friends (Shirley Zeng) was extremely considerate and decided to bring over some of their cocked turkey to us for which we are most grateful. What we did not expect was that Shirley brought over a complete turkey dinner cocked Chinese style with all the stuffing and side dishes totally Chinese in fancy containers which we have never seen or eaten before in our lives. What a treat!!!
Readers of blogs know that I really enjoy food and have written about cuisines many times before. But this Chinese style Thanksgiving dinner is a first. And the foods are delicious and something unique which I am doubtful a westerner can imagine and truly appreciate the first time. It is a great innovative feat that should be publicized and enjoyed by everyone in the whole world. In fact, I suspect that Chinese in China probably are not aware of this innovation generally and should add this to their famous recipe books. Many thanks, Shirley, for this wonderful experience.
