I believe it was Martin Luther King who said, “Service is the rent we pay for living”.America is a land of volunteer service and of giving back to the society via  volunteering for service to the public. The PVSA was established by the federal  government to honor service in student,adult, and lifetime service categories requiring different amount of certified volunteer hours to qualify  https://www.presidentialserviceawards.gov/who-we-are .  I am proud to say that my wife, at the annual Chinese American Association of Lexington  (CAAL) buffet potluck dinner night 11/19/2016, was given a PVSA lifetime award for  contributing over 4800 hours of volunteer service in the past half century  in the greater Boston area.
